Youngest age to join the Royal Marines?

Discussion in 'Joining Up - Royal Navy Recruiting' started by Peter_G, Jul 15, 2008.

Welcome to the Navy Net aka Rum Ration

The UK's largest and busiest UNofficial RN website.

The heart of the site is the forum area, including:

  1. It's that time of my life when I have to start thinking about the serious stuff, and I am certain I want to join the royal marines. But I was wondering what the youngest age is. I was told on yahoo answers it was 17, but I then went on the royal marine commandos website, , clicked on the careers tab at the top, went to how to join, then eligibility. And in the age section, it says....
"To apply to the Royal Navy you must be no younger than 15 years, 9 months. On entry you must be no younger than 16 (17 for Officers) and no older than 36 (up to and including your 37th birthday). The maximum age for Officer entry varies according to specialisation.

Please Note: if you are under 18, the consent of your parents or guardians is required. This will be asked for at the application stage. "

Does that mean I could join the royal marines at 16? It wasn't that clear. Thanks.

'To apply' and 'to join' are not the same thing.

15y 9m to commence the application process which, if all goes well, means that by the time you are approved, you are 16 years old.

Plenty of information on the 'sticky' threads in The Corps and Newbies sections of Rum Ration.

    Good luck!
  5. Hi Peter, welcome to RR.
If you go the RN website, you will see that WO2 Mark Burton RM is doing a live web chat tomorrow (Wed) at 1600-1800. He will be able to answer any questions.
  6. Knell you let me join on my 15th birthday in 62 :thumright: Was that a kind of treat? :w00t:
  7. Hi,

Basically to back up what has already been said:-

    Process - 15 and 9 months

Entry - 16 or on completion of full time education whichever is the later.

The youngest candidate I sent to a PRMC was 16 and 1 day and he entered when he was 16 and 2 months old. The upper age for the marines in currently 32.

    Hope this helps you
