.i wunder how the ladd got on with the phycremetric test...????

Perhaps we should count ourselves lucky that we didn't have to take such a test in our day, let alone spell it (whatever it was).

NG,
Good post and I agree with you. I will try and help the Newbies where and when I can. However, Mr roberts I believe is undeserving of that help now.

Right, I've not the time or inclination to read all of this and so you might say shouldn't be posting on here, but I read the first 5 pages.

My English is of an acceptable standard I feel, I always say thankyou for any answer's and use Grammar so I understand my older and better's getting annoyed at some of the "Inglish" that fellow Newbies spout however I like many other's use this forum to ask some seemingly obvious question's. Human's are inherrently lazy and so would much rather start a new thread than search the countless other's, all I wish to say is that perhap's Newbies should all be informed of the search feature rather than jumping straight on their back's.

I'm not sure there is a sticky at the top of this forum giving newbies an introduction to this forum but I'm sure when i go back and check there will be, the problem it seem's that if there is one that not enough newbie's are using it.

When I made my first post on this forum I pissed Hig and some other member's off but 6 month's down the line I can understand completely why they act in such a manner, thank god for Ninja and SM is all I can say.

Welcome back Rookie. What a difference six months of training can make, eh?

If you'd read past the first five pages, you would have seen some generally supportive posts. For reasons known only to themselves, the few less tolerant posters on here can't wait to saturate any Newbie thread with their unhelpful vitriol, often parroting each other ad infinitum. You make some good points and I'm sure Ninja and SM will appreciate your fulsome praise.

Perhaps he ought to watch the educational film classic, Mr Roberts. Stuck on board a US Navy support ship in a backwater of the Second World War under the Command of a bullying Captain, the eponymous Lt (jg) Doug Roberts was itching to join a destroyer so he could see action. The film contained these wonderful quotations (among many others):

James Cagney as Captain Morton to Henry Fonda as Lt (jg) Doug Roberts said:
"You're a smart boy, Roberts. But I know how to take care of smart boys. I hate your guts, you smart college guys! I've been seeing your kind around since I was ten years old... working as a busboy. "Oh busboy, it seems my friend has thrown up on the table. Clean up that mess, boy, will'ya?" And then when I went to sea as a steward... people poking at you with umbrellas. "Oh, boy!", "You, boy!", "Careful with that luggage, boy!" And I took it. I took it for years! But I don't have to take it any more. There's a war on, and I'm captain of this vessel, and now YOU can take it for a change! The worst thing I can do to you... is to keep you right here, Mister, and here is where you're going to stay. Now, GET OUT!"

Remind you of anyone? Also:

Mr Roberts said:
Doug Roberts: Captain, you told me...
Capt. Morton: Never mind what I told you. I'M TELLING YOU!

And, just for a bit of light relief:

Discussion between Fonda as Lt Roberts and Jack Lemmon as Ensign Pulver said:
Doug Roberts: Frank, I like you. There's no getting around the fact that you're a real likable guy.
Ensign Pulver: Yeah? Yeah!
Doug Roberts: But...
Ensign Pulver: But what?
Doug Roberts: Well, I also think you're the most hapless, lazy, disorganized, and in general most lecherous person I've ever known in my life.
Ensign Pulver: I am not!
Doug Roberts: You're not what?
Ensign Pulver: I am not disorganized!

Experience is the one thing that can't be taught, I try and help now and again but what I can do is limited. Although I would suggest I can offer recent first hand's experience relating to getting up to the point I'm at currently, the English that some people use on here is still terrible and personally If I was Ninja or SM I'd refuse to answer to anyone who hasn't bothered to use a spell checker or dictionary but I suppose this is what make's their job such a good one.

It wouldn't do much good me telling anyone anything about the andrew now, its changed that much from my day they would all get thrown out in a couple of days for not being PC enough or a breach of Human Rights or some such crap.

When I was just about comming out the mob a leading hand was frightened to troop an OD or junior as they would "Change their option" and go outside or just cry and the Pigs were letting em get away with it.

Just cry???!!! o_O I thought all matelots were ruffy tuffy types. To be honest if anyone cried with me I'd take pity on them and, er  let them off...

Interesting perspective NG. I'm a bit shocked though: their parents still at school in 1982!

Bless the noobs :cuddle:

I on the other hand always ask stupid questions like

Can I stop out late with my mates or will it upset you?

Can I have more money for booze?

Can the lads watch the footie around here,

The list is endless.

Oh and by the way that spell checker you was on about, try using it

There are two "L"'s in normally

Today's free English lesson for Newbies who wish to be taken seriously:

The first person singular personal pronoun is written as "I" not "i".

The correct version of the following phrases is:

"would have" not "would of"
"could have" not "could of"
"may have" not "may of"
"might have" not "might of"
"should have" not "should of"
and so on...

No need to thank me. You're welcome. :)
