I have a service record (WW2) for a relative a couple of queries have arisen.
His official no is PO/X, I assume the PO is for Portsmouth but what does the X signify, I had an idea it was "hostilities only" but can that be confirmed please.
Also it also gives a detail of trade as being Code N 39
Another code is GAHR 250/3
Class A release, is this released into reserve?
Any help on these details will be appreciated.

Any chance you can scan the SC so we can have a look at it, it sometimes helps to put information in to context.

Her are the 2 pages of the record in question.
The main query is regarding the details in the Personal detail section
Secondly the discharge detail "Class A "

It seems to say 'released in class A' - In my day that was your character - so for matelots it was

Superior
Satisfactory
Unsatisfactory

so i offer that is the RM equivalent of being released in Superior character ??

N39 relates to his occupation on joining. N39 includes Helper ( general assistant). Occupation grades determined priority for demob. GAHR 250/3 was his demob group details.

Thanks all for your advice, I half suspected the N39,GAHR 250/3 had some connection to pre entry occupation and other details explained satisfactorily.
