WS(HM) – Numbers...

I appreciate that not every candidate uses this site and that the HM branch is quite small, but it surprises me that only two potential HM specialists have posted their entry date on the ‘When Are You Going to HMS Raleigh?’ thread; Kiwi-Fi, who entered on September 6 and myself, entering on February 28...

Are there many more HM candidates going through the system at the moment? Is it possible I could be doing my professional training (touch wood) with only one-or-two other students?

It’s not a concern; just an observation. I’d be interested to know what could be in store.

It is also quite possible that not everyone who reads RR actually posts on here either. Shortage of Flak Jackets?

Either that or there must be a quite a number of wise birds out there somewhere......

It's a very small branch with a very slow training pipeline and throughput of personnel. There are only 8 WS(HM) joining in February and it is quite possible that you are the only one that posts on RR.

Good luck for when you join.

I'm currently waiting for a start date for HM....

Don't worry you won't be alone although classes are small. There are 12 of us in total, 5 hydro and 7 met in our intake. It's well worth the wait. I'm loving it!

How soon do you get streamed Hydro or Met?

We put in our preferences around about week 7 of Raleigh. We had 2 weeks of key skills straight after and we found out in the first week. They are in need of more met people than hydrographers but fortunately everyone got what they wanted. :D

Must be quite a relief, Kiwi-Fi; glad for you! :)

Can’t say I’m not a little anxious as to whether or not I’ll be granted my preference (Hydrography); it’s what I signed up with the anticipation of doing 25 -long- months ago. :?

I’ll settle with crossed fingers, for now.
