Given that she was a Female Logistitian Catering Services (Deliverer), you can see why the papers would prefer to refer to her as a Wren Steward. And given they powers that be have reverted the Logs CS(D) back to Steward, how long until the ladies are referred to as Wrens again!! ;-)

Why not go the whole nine yards and call her a 'Stewardess'? :)

From what I remember (admit to not checking) this individual arrived in UK as an asylum seeker and as such was ineligible to join the Armed Forces.

Eventually granted asylum, given British citizenship & eligible to join the UK armed forces after fulfilling the residency requirement she joined-up.

Unfortunately many asylum seekers magically lose all means of ID upon arrival in UK, when granted asylum they are issued with not only citizenship but new identity papers in their possibly assumed name. This makes it impossible to discover whether they have previous convictions or are part of an international drugs smuggling ring, as in this particular case.

So the sensible thing to do would be to not allow them to join the Armed Forces at all. Even the European Court of Human Rights would be hard pushed to defend someone with un-traceable history joining up and posing a security risk to everybody. She's been caught smuggling drugs, but in a different life, she could have been involved in espionage. Bad call from the MoD allowing the gates to be opened for these people.
