The comments are interesting, particularly this one......

The accused lost her sense of rationality due to a deep depression and reacted as someone who is suffering an illness. She needs help not locking away with hardened criminals. It was wrong of her to cause such havoc, but she was ill and had lost her reason during a breakdown, how is locking her away going to solve anything.
And as for Mr 'Perfect' Norman who suggests 5 years, I imagine from his smug self righteousness, he has been fortunate never to suffer the torment of depression which can lead to moments of madness. The accused did not choose to be ill Mr Norman, and caused a moment of alarm and inconvenience, no lasting damage to any individual apart from herself. Mr Norman, you have been fortunate but you are not immune from depression, and the ensuing irrational behaviour that can occur. You had better pray it never happens to you in case you make an error of judgement during a moment of insanity. Judge not lest ye be judged. You are not god and are not qualified to condemn her.

As for the uninformed idiot that comments on the 'glitz and makeup' of the navy he has no idea what kind of lives women have on board - glitz, do me a favour, these are noble hardworking brave women who risk their lives, dirty their hands and graft alongside their male shipmates, how dare you demean them. And, just for the record, the accused was not sent away, she resigned after 7 dedicated years service- a lot longer than many manage and was proud to serve her country. This whole thing is a tragedy caused by a mental breakdown. The result of sending her to prison could result in exacerbating the illness and destroying any chance of a recovery or return to a normal life. Perhaps if she were a thug who sets fire to people or beats people up or burgles old ladies, she would have been given a suspended sentence" the whole picture, Midlands
