A current affair that takes place annually in Alice Springs is the Todd River Regatta . The Todd River runs through the Alice and although named river most of the year it is completely dry and inhabited by indigenous people where they drink and sleep and no doubt do many other things . However , bearing in mind the lack of water ,the ingenuity of the locals lead to the creation of the Todd River Regatta . To achieve this , boats with no water , the boats are built with provisions for legs through the bottom . So to compete. the crews put their feet on the ground inside the hull then pick up the hull and run . It really is very funny particularly when most if not all are well lubricated.
