WIFI At Phase 2 Raleigh

Welcome to the Navy Net aka Rum Ration

The UK's largest and busiest UNofficial RN website.

The heart of the site is the forum area, including:

  1. Just on summer leave at the moment and hopefully going into Phase 2 at Raleigh in September. My phone contract is due up this month and before I commit to a higher data usage package I just wanted to know wether WIFI is available in Phase 2 accommodation? If so it would save me getting an expensive contract before I go back in September. Does anybody know whether it is available or not? Much appreciated.

  2. WiFi
When I was at Raleigh in 63 we had to communicate by tapping on the radiators in code:smilebox:

Wifi in Limers maybe. "Phase 2 wifi" will be about £24 pm for 100 mins, 5000 texts, unlimited data. Get googling for your best contract offer.

  6. Keycom provide wonderfully overpriced Internet in most forces accommodation which you can pay for monthly with no long term contract. You can just jack a router up. Not sure if there are ports at Raleigh's phase 2 accom though. I would doubt it to be honest.
  7. I had to before anyone had the Internet. Razzle, Escort and the likes. I'm one of the older recruits in Raleigh. :)

  9. There are three payment plans available at Raleigh for WIFI, quite expensive but a good service nontheless (can set it up in a minute aswell). I pay £20 a month and get 10mb DL / 20mb UL. Alternatives are paying £15 a month and £30 if I remember correctly.

  10. It was in Sir Galahad Block when I was there. Didn't know anybody that used it though as everyone seemed to be using the Internet off there phones, or had deals on dongles through there phones as well. Seems that you get a hell of a lot more with mobile Internet though.
  11. With mobile internet, you can view porn without having to worry about what gets filtered through the MoD systems. I always liked to surf for ladies with great big bosoms just because it cheered up a dull evening in Cornwall. I also ended up decorating my "office space" with various pictures of memes to brighten up my working space.
  12. Life at Raleigh must be a doddle, in the olden days (cough cough wheeze wheeze spit) we were run ragged during the day and evening and didn't even have enough energy left for a wink before going to sleep never mind tinternet:smilebox:
  13. Ah, but to be fair, I am a writer and I'm supposed to use the internet for "research".
  14. Thanks for the replies. The data aspect was for using Skype to speak to my little one. But as the transfer rate for video calling is about 300kbps 500m of data allowance a month will not be enough. As for filth my mobile will see me through ;)

  15. Do you have skype on your phone? With the 3 network i get unlimited internet which has no fair usage limit, it is literally as much as you want! Used to be able to turn your phone into a wifi hotspot (with an iphone, not sure about other phones and their capabilities) and use that; although on a laptop the connection was rather slow and probably only ideal for occassional use and not something data intensive like skype perhaps, and i heard that the rules on that have changed and may have to pay extra. I have the skype app and it works dandy, not 100% as good as using it on a computer as the screen is smaller but it does the job nicely. Might be something worth looking in to as long as the place has 3g signal- unlimited data is a tenner for me i think, i found 3 the cheapest and never had any problems with connectivity *touch wood*, but might be better deals out there now! Do you have an ipad with a data contract or anything?
  16. Wi-fi at the Phase 2 Accommodation is provided by Media Force. All the rates can be found here - Services | Media Force

I'm in Phase 2 just now and use the 20meg package. Great for streaming HD movies through Netflix and Skyping the family. Also means I can partition a few meg for my iPhone (just give them a ring once you've signed up if you want to do that). Most of the other guys use the 4meg package which is fine if you don't want to stream tv and movies or use Skype.

Anyway, now that the part-time phone shop salesmen have gone to bed, in between working out what tariff and suitable handset to take to Raleigh in order to have phone sex and download smut, has the OP worked out what suitcase/iron to take with him/her? The suspense is nailbiting...

I spent 2 hours trying to cancel an O2 contract this morning. I had lots of time to look for a better deal.
