Not up my own at all. Just being offered advice like I'm a snotty grad who's never been on a platform before.

There was a company doing ‘joining up kits’ for less than the individual items. Iron, virgin underwear still in its wrapper and sword ( cutlass for Ratings ). I think they advertised in Navy News, perhaps still do.
Having looked into this since seeing the Joss on the QE carry a sword during the commissioning ceremony, I’ve been looking into the rules on ratings and bladed weapons.

In relation to a table mentioning Cutlass with number 1As
BR3 CH39 Annex A 1A Note 6 said:
MAAs and certain Warrant Officer 1s. Senior and Junior Ratings may be armed with rifle
and bayonet. A cutlass is carried by a Chief Petty officer in escort to the White Ensign Ceremonial Kit (WECK) and Senior Rating/Leading Rating escort at court martial.
Now the MAA on the QE has a sword that looks to me identical to an officers sword, with the exception being that the handle grip is black and not white.

Having looked online, the only images of cutlasses I can find are of a 1900 pattern that look like this:

Now I’m the BRs there is no mention of swords for ratings and the quote from BR3 is the only reference I can find.
Is the black version of the officers sword the current ratings cutllass or is the 1900’s pattern still extent?

A Master At Arms has always been entitled to carry a sword.

See that’s what I thought, but the BR made no mention to a sword, only cutlasses.

Found this. I looked at cutlass for my wedding but decided against due to the size of the bloody thing and me being not so big

I don’t know if Tin Trousers is still operating in the dungeon, er, basement underneath Nelson Wardroom but they are, the may have pre loved swords for sale.

Some officers flog their swords privately when they retire rather than donate them. For sale notices on Wardroom notice boards are a good place to look.

I've been asked to weigh in, for what it's worth.

I've got a sword, but I inherited it, and it's gieves (natch), but refurbished by crisps.

If I were you, instead of getting a new one, I'd speak to the Association of Royal Navy Officers (ARNO) or the Britannia Association to see if they have any second hand ones for sale.

One of the SUYs whose just passed out got a turn of the last century sword owned by a RAdm, which is a nice bit of history to have. He found his in a second hand/antique shop.

Good luck in searching.

BOB - excellent! It isn't only me that thinks he is a wee bit up his own bottom then? Should make a cracking orifice!
that's a bit harsh, his money to waste, could have a bender of a run ashore instead, unless he is loaded, then he could do both and take his sword on his run ashore, may get arrested, but he can point out the quality, before the police destroy it?
