Welcome to the Navy Net aka Rum Ration

The UK's largest and busiest UNofficial RN website.

The heart of the site is the forum area, including:

  1. Are your medical records checked?

what is the process- do applicants take a form to their GP to sign?
  2. I presume you've got something the RN doesn't approve of then?!
  3. A request will be sent to your GP after you've provided the address. It will be on one of the application forms.
  4. Cheers, so before or after the AIB?

If you have had a condition that is an automatic bar to entry- anorexia/depression does it matter if it was time limited/mild and you haven't suffered for a number of years since?

  5. AngryDoc will be along to answer your question shortly...
  6. Before the AIB, in fact, before the PJFT and the Sift.
  7. A confirmed diagnosis of Anorexia nervosa is an automatic bar. There is no time limit. There is no right of appeal. There may be an avenue to argue that the diagnosis was incorrectly made.

Depression is a different matter, and will depend on what (if any) stressors have brought this about. A decision on this can only be made by an appropriately qualified person.
  8. I think Joe has been reading, or using the search tool as this topic has been discussed before.

Anorexia nervosa is a bar to entry because of the high rate of recurrence of the condition.

Short periods of depression as a result of a specific event (eg your cat dies) may be acceptable but, in general terms, you need to be along time past any problems before you will qualify for entry.

So eating disorders and mental illness are only acceptable once you've joined the RN then, AD..? :?
