When to apply?

Welcome to the Navy Net aka Rum Ration

The UK's largest and busiest UNofficial RN website.

The heart of the site is the forum area, including:

  1. Sorry for the silly question, but could anyone give me some general advice on when I should apply? I'm looking to join the Submarine Service as a Comms & Info Systems Specialist & I've been told that recruitment for subs is good at the moment. Does anyone have any rough idea on the wait time from applying to having a start date for subs?

  2. Welcome, Woody.

If you haven't been in touch with Recruitment at all so far, ring 08456 07 55 55 after 0900 tomorrow to make your initial enquiry.

Can't remember off the top of my head but CIS(SM) is around 12 months I think.

The recruitment helpline, like me, will tell you to speak to your AFCO tomorrow for a more accurate guesstimate.
  4. Thanks guys. I'll phone the AFCO tomorrow after school, if they're still open. What should I ask exactly? what the wait time is for X role? don't really want to make myself sound like a numpty on the phone. lol
  5. What are you studying at school, Woody?
  6. Pretty much, I am sure they won't think you are a numpty for being sensible and planning ahead :)
  7. Woody, best of luck with the application etc but if you are still at school or college, what are you studying?

As you might consider looking into Officers careers on the website?

CIS(SM) is currently nearer an 8 month wait, test to entry- assuming there are no hold-ups along the way.
