Welcome to the Navy Net aka Rum Ration

The UK's largest and busiest UNofficial RN website.

The heart of the site is the forum area, including:

  1. What do Royal Marines do while not on operations. Lets say they get back from afganistan do they have a few weeks off or do they stay at there base and only have weekends off?

Also how long does it take to be able to take up a specialisation im interested in Physical Training Insructor or Intelligance.

Oh one more question( i know im asking alot), How long does it take to get promoted usually?

    Cheers Lads
  2. Not 100% sure if it is the same for everyone.

My friend who was serving in Iraq came back and was given 5 weeks leave and then had to come back for a parade (to get his medal) and then had another 4 weeks off.

  3. Oh the beautiful irony.
  4. Why is that irony?

I have 6 A gcses. I think im smart enough to say im interested in the combat intelligance specialisation.

  5. The problem is that you can't even spell intelligence!

  6. Back from Ops=Leave
Weekend not working (ie on Guard or Other Duties)=Boozed, sex addled, spew covered heaps. Either that or taking in some culture at a Museum or researching their Doctoral thesis at the Ashmolean.
  7. You missed out Brass Rubbing! Lot of bootnecks do that I heard.

I see some conflict of the mind here.

Also how long does it take to be able to take up a specialisation im interested in Physical Training Insructor or Intelligance.

  9. Notwithstanding the speeling issues which have already been highlighted, there are significant differences between these two trades. what is it about each which interests you, why those two?
  10. PTI becuase it gives me the chance to get new recruits fit and i ve always fancied the carearr of fitness instructor, also keep my own level of fitness up.

Intelligence because i ve just always liked the idea of knowing the inside of operations and that and being involved.

    Hope that clears things up.

Every so often there comes a thread that simply begs to be made a sticky for the benefit of future generations.

    Back on subject.......

Some time is spent shopping for that little evening number, is Laura Ashley still the shop of choice??
  13. On similar lines, what did they call those strips of cloth that were tied round the neck in the 70's? They were quite wide at the bottom and usually multi-coloured. Help me out here :thumright:
  14. not what they were actually called but I do believe they went rather well with those smoking jacket type thing's they often used to parade down the strip in.
  15. I'd recommend PTI, HTH, HAND
  16. That's the ones. I still need it saying though. If I said it was a kind of fish I'd be giving too much away.

    C'mon chaps!
  17. Q1 Read it out aloud and take a guess.
Q2 Look at the RM site, apply a little literacy and arithmetic knowledge and take a stab.
Q3 For you? Forever. Try joining up first.

I know you won't be hurt by anything I have written above because you are educated to Advanced Level standard.

I'm sure the old and bold will say I am being too harsh.

Try not to be afraid of letting go of Nursies' hand for fear of something worse.
