What's in a name ? GSSR

Welcome to the Navy Net aka Rum Ration

The UK's largest and busiest UNofficial RN website.

The heart of the site is the forum area, including:

  1. Is everyone happy with the branch name , GSSR ?

As COMMS & MEDS have now joined the family, should it still be called GSSR anymore ? It doesn't actually tell anyone what our exact role is ! I appreciate it probably took several man hours for some punters to arrive at GSSR but can it be improved? We all know the RN loves abbreviations and acronyms, and knowing the people in the RNR there are bound to be better ones out there........any ideas ? Will this 'R' be dropped also ?

  2. Heard a rumour recently the they were considering a name change for that very reason. The new name proposed.......wait for it............SEAMAN!

  3. Genius! And someone will have been paid thousands to think of that as well!

  4. they could have just dropped the'R'r and kept 'GSS' and just changed the meaning i.e. 'Great Seaman Shooters' ! the list could be endless tho.

  5. You'd have to be careful how that could be read though..

I don't see why we couldn't just share the 'seaman specialist' branch title that the regulars have now got, after all that's what we're supposed to be!
