Padlocks is a definite, been advised a decent iron too. I suppose how much of your own gear you take depends on whether or not you'll be travelling home at weekends much etc. Summer leave is only 1 month after the course starts... I'm on the same one

Thank you! That helps alot, I just didnt want to overpack or underpack and take things I didn't need or leave behind things that I did need if any of that makes sense? But I suppose because leave is only 1 month after the course starts, then if anything is forgotten, it'll be easy to just bring it in September. Anyway, thank you for the help! And I suppose I'll see you next week then!

Do RFA employees qualify for a HM Forces Railcard? Yes I have done a search in the box top right! The railcard website mentions reservists but no specific mention of RFA.

Not for Railcards currently, but you can get a Defence Discount Card (look up DDS online, there's also an app) as a member of serving personnel or MOD civilian, whichever you prefer (I got serving so that my partner could get a card as well, a number of the discounts are better too!). There are some pretty tasty discounts, such as 60% off coach travel with National Express and various discounts on the high street and online.

It makes me both rant and chortle when the minority of toxic fcuks in the RFA with a permanent hostility towards the RN
( and the RFA-they see themselves as Merchant Navy even if they've never done a commercial trip) are happy to identify as RN for a discount or hospitality.

I'm not massively familiar with these people, having not been to sea yet (although I've met a couple already), but I was pretty transparent when applying for my discount card. I'm down as RFA and they were happy for me to get a card for my partner which is normally only for serving personnel. As for mess accommodation and facilities the RN seem happy enough to accept officers at least into the fold, which really isn't to be sniffed at. Although I don't hate the RN, far from it. Cracking bunch of people.

The Defence Discount Card's catagories of membership includes RFA veterans. The RFA's veterans also qualify for the HMAF Veterans' badge.

Eleven RFA officers and ratings lost their lives during the Falklands War and the Service's medal haul was impressive, including DSOs and a posthumous GM, the latter for an act of self sacrifice to save another.

I thought it was quite a legitimate question? Sponsored reservists and all that?????

It is up to the rail companies to decide who gets a railcard. A sponsored reservist is a very specific beast for a very specific time and place, not a reservist. The railway companies understand this.

Everyone who has a railway card gets the same discount which is 30% on adult tickets and 60% off children. The differences is the price.

I have a 16-21 railcard which is usually £60 but my sister got me one for my 18th and she only paid £30 because she has one.

The HM forces railcard is £17, presonally we're civilian we don't gone through the same training so we don't deserve HMAF discounts. If people want to bitch about it they can join RN,RAF or army.

Did you read my posts about fatalities and Operational Honours? Training is fcuk all. When the shooting starts, the RFA is a legitimate target, including Argus in PCRF role.

Doesn't mean that the RFA deserve a rail card.
