Recently have been looking about being a biomedical scientist for the Navy - anybody know anything about the roles they have? Is the job exciting / active etc?

Thanks, already read that one though, and the leaflet I got from a recruiter. I was more wondering how much time is spent at sea, what the day to day is like and other things. Cheers again though.

I would say that personnel in this role are likely to spend a greater than average percentage of their time shore-based rather than at sea, most likely at somewhere like the RCDM in Birmingham or the MDHU at Derriford. Most ships in the Fleet wouldn't carry a Biomedical Scientist.

The one exception would be RFA Argus, I would imagine.

If you were at sea, I would think that you were either training or taking part in something like this:

I’m a Medical Technician (ODP) and usually work along side BMS onboard/land operations and in the Firm Base @RCDM.

There are a number of BMS who deploy both on land with Commando Forward Surgical Group and at Sea and as stated this would be part of a Role 2 (Bay Class LPD/QE Class Carriers) or Role 3 RFA ARGUS. As an RN BMSS you may also find yourself in support of Army lead groups such as South Sudan for the UN (UNMISS).

Deployments obviously depend upon needs of the Service/Tasking but usually 4-6 months.
