An interesting website that contains links for events and exhibitions in and around Portsmouth this year:

"This year is of major historical significance to Portsmouth with several anniversaries including the 70[SUP]th [/SUP]anniversary of the D-Day landings, the Centenary of the outbreak of the First World War and the 350[SUP]th[/SUP] anniversary of the formation of the Royal Marines.

In addition to this, the National Museum of the Royal Navy at the Portsmouth Historic Dockyard will also be opening major new exhibition galleries focusing on the history of the Royal Navy during the twentieth and twenty-first centuries called ‘Hear My Story’.

To ensure that each of these anniversaries is given its deserved recognition, Portsmouth will mark each one with a special programme of events for all the family, community based projects and activities for the local community, visitors to the city, Veterans and serving members of the Armed Forces to engage with.

Being home to the Royal Navy, we are keen to raise awareness of Portsmouth’s heritage and highlight the role that service people and civilians have played in Portsmouth’s history."
