Welcome to the Navy Net aka Rum Ration

The UK's largest and busiest UNofficial RN website.

The heart of the site is the forum area, including:

  1. On my way to Lough Tay here in the Republic of Ireland Gardai road block one in civvies armed with what looked like a UZI.

Just curious if it was a UZI small barrel never had time to spot and observe they whwre waving us through smartish any experts out there know any different??

  2. Are you sure it wasn't a shilalegh......shila...shi......one of those funny shaped Irish clubs?

  3. Was wondering who would be the first to mention that. The Canadians where sure excited visiting here.

Couvier, the celebrated French surgeon, reported that the Irish had the thickest skulls in Europe as a result of centuries of bashing each other on the head with the shillelagh.

  9. Maybe it was a Nail Gun??

  10. Yep they use the Uzi, I even know a halfwitt that was issued with one.... god save us!

  11. It was indeed an UZI, all Garda Detectives are armed as a matter of routine, uniformed members are not allowed to carry fiirearms.
The Army Ranger Wing , our SAS, use the MP5. The Gardai were armed with the UZI in the early 70s to deal with the trouble in the North. :thumright:

  12. Yeah! the Paddies use Uzi's although they are trying to get the funds for the HECK/Koch like all other police forces including the Yanks.
There may be another more rational reason, the UZI is the only gun in the world with a bottle opener fitted!
So many troops in the 6 day war against the Arabs used the trigger guard to open Cola bottles that they fitted a bottle opener on the stock.
Clever and suits the Irish very well.

    "Former Armourer with Irish parents!!"

  13. Ireland has both of what you would not want:
One of the largest illegal immigration problems coupled with an enormous drug problem.
A lot of the hard drugs found in the UK are sourced through Galicia thence to Ireland and onwards to the UK.
The Irish police have every reason to be cautious.

  14. Frightening really Eastern Europeans who have prior Military service and no problem using extreme force if needs be. 10 years ago the cops only had to deal with guys carrying sawn off shot guns, today they all have serious firepower, two 17 year olds recently arrested with an MP5.
