Weapons Engineering apprenticeship Surface Fleet

I was wondering if anyone could tell me a bit more about the apprenticeship named above. I’ve passed my interview and psych tests but need to pass my medical and fitness test (on it) before I can start. I’m interested in engineering and was wondering how long the current wait time is for Raleigh, a bit more about the phase 2 training, the length of contract ( want as much sea time as possible) and the oportunities to progress onto an officer role as that’s primarily the aim. I have A levels so I’m qualified to be an officer in other areas however my view is what’s the point joining if you’re not going to be doing what you think you’d enjoy regardless of status. If anyone could give me any advice that’d be great. Cheers

In my Navy i.e. the old navy (63-85) I would have said go for officer.
However in today's RN Ratings are treated by officers with far more respect and everything on the lower deck has improved.
If you wish to be a "Hands On" engineer then go for Weapons Engineer.
The skills taught to you will last for life and these skills are easily transferable to civilian life when you decide to return.
Engineering officer is basically a management roll and very few will actually get involved in maintenance, in fact the lads normally try to keep the officers as far away from the equipment as possible
If you decide to become an officer later then that is possible and often encouraged.
Life as an officer is better in most respects.
However the choice is yours, best of luck with whatever decision you make.
