Welcome to the Navy Net aka Rum Ration

The UK's largest and busiest UNofficial RN website.

The heart of the site is the forum area, including:

  1. ive passed all my tests and waiting for afco to get in touch wiv me for a date to join raleigh! ive got told about march time. Is anyone else in the same situation as me????

  2. A really good idea would be to ring the AFCO up and tell him you don't want to be a WS seeing as how you'll be ship's cat all your life.

  3. how very true, get out while you can!

  4. a ships cat?
    whys that :O?

  5. Stick with it lucky the date to join will soon come a round. You might even get a date a little earlier than that.

Hope it all works out for you.

  6. In the meantime why not spend some time improving your written English?

Just a few corrections, however it really does need re-writing in Queens English. :thumright:

  7. Whoever it was asked "Ships cat, whys that?" ... Slim just explained. You're basically complete bottom of the stack, ne'mind. Crack on, life in a blue one and all that.

  8. slim.

    Queen's.

    :thumright:

  9. Slim and Guzzler, (and ultimately Lucky).
    Apostrophe for "I've".
    Question mark after "me" (Slim).
Surely it should be "and am waiting"?

    Any more?

  10. Many thanks Guzzler and 2bMango for pointing out my errors in God's own language. :thumright:

I did point out though that the sentence required rewriting :thumright:

  12. is this a forum or an english class..... sort it peeps. ya meant to be here to help people like me and matelows on here......NO NEED FOR IT lol!!!!

DANNYCART27...............will let u know what date i get mite see ya at raleigh

  13. It's a forum using English as the main language, a basic grasp would be helpful, not to mention courteous.

We're not meant to be anything. We have just as much right to take the piss out of idiots as you have to type in your childish text speak.

  14. Though it is a forum for newbies it seems that all too many are either too thick or too lazy to be able to construct sentences in English, spelling is abysmal and grammer non existent. It's obvious from your written English that you have only been offered a low scoring branch.
If this is the future of the RN then I despair.
An appreciation of the English language is a requirement in ALL branches if you wish to advance above Able rate.

  15. well like i said this aint an english class and sorry for getting into the 21st century and being able to shorten my words like everyone else, have u not got a phone to text people coz thats what we do on texts now a days or u not need one cuz u got no friends to text thats why u critisize people on here.... get a life youth

  16. I hold conversations or write letters and emails to my friends using the English language.
In this life you reap what you sow, enjoy your life as an AB because unless you take steps to improve your command of the English language that is as high as you will get. Leading hands are expected to be able to write reports in clear, concise English. I'm fairly sure that even in this enlightened age a report written in text speak would be instantly rejected by the whoever who had ordered it to be written.

When did this happen?! :?

As someone who is still serving, tell me, have standards of new entries really fallen to this level :pukel:

  19. Sorry for jumping in but:

Society has changed and so has its attitude to English language. A recent case on the news mentioned 'Text Speak' being accepted in a GCSE English paper. It's not just the navy that has to put up with it but all avenues of the world of work.
