Warfare Officer (Submariner) Training Pipeline - As of April 2011

Still confused? Ascertain whether nautical miles/knots or land miles/mph are used in these exercises then prep up accordingly.

They use both but you are expected to work it out assuming that 1 knot = 1mph. Like I mentioned previously, it isn't so much about your actual mathematical ability, rather your ability to remain calm under intense pressure.

Just want to thank the guy who started the thread - I've been looking for the most up to date training pipeline for X(SM) for a while now - got my sift interview reasonably soon as the more up to date my information the better :)

13 weeks at HMS Raliegh

For those X(SM) candidates going to Sift and AIB, you will need to know your training pipeline in great depth. Unfortunately it's bloody difficult to get ahold of (nigh on impossible). I passed my AIB yesterday so this is your pipeline, accurate as of April 2011;

- 14 weeks at BRNC (Militarisation, culminating in BLD and then ABLE)

- 14 weeks at BRNC (10 weeks IFT, Fleet Board, culminating in MARL and then Passing Out)

- 14 weeks at BRNC (Initial Warfare Officer (Foundation) Course)

- 4 weeks at HMS Collingwood (Warfare Officer's Navigation Course)

- SFT (Specialist Fleet Time - 6-9 months onboard a surface vessel, mainly gaining bridge experience)

- 4 months at HMS Collingwood (Initial Warfare Officers Course)

- 13 weeks at HMS Raleigh with a 2 week stint at HMS Sultan (Submarine Warfare Course - 2 weeks at Sultan is nuclear-specific training)

- 3 months on operations on a Submarine gaining your Dolphins

Good luck!

Thanks for this, I'll be using it in my sift on the 9th May. I would like to ask what is involved in the 13 weeks at HMS Raleigh? Is it a 13 week long submariner training with a submariner survival course the way there would be a sea survival course?

I'm going for Warfare Officer submariner and I think my ACLO will be grilling me (understandably) about the submariner officer time line.

Cheers

To be honest, I'm not 100% sure myself. I know for sure that some of it will be Submariner Survival but I don't know if that makes up the vast majority, etc.

Personally, I wasn't asked about this in too much depth. What they really wanted to know for me was; at Sift - My full pipeline, extra brownie points if you can name the bases where each stage will take place, and at BRNC - My full pipeline, including where my training would take place (i.e. Okay, your IWOF is at HMS Collingwood but where is that exactly?) and how long it would take.

I would say that you would be unlucky to get grilled about course content at AIB, let alone Sift.
