Waiting list Medic/Warfare Specialist.

Welcome to the Navy Net aka Rum Ration

The UK's largest and busiest UNofficial RN website.

The heart of the site is the forum area, including:

  1. I was speaking to a sailor freshly passed out of Raleigh as an engineer. He originally applied as a Warfare Specialist but the waiting list was too extensive for WS and opted for enginer instead. I find myself in a similar position as I'm currently awaiting my security clearance so I can get my entry dates to Raleigh.

I'm hoping to join as a WS but the sailor I spoke to informed me that a large majority of the warfare branch hopefuls are being offered other roles to save them from a long time waiting for phase 2 training.

Can anyone verify whether this is true?
If it is can anyone tell me the current waiting list (2014/15) for General Medical Assistant?

I'm too far from my nearest afco to ask them this, and they're closed at weekends.
I also couldn't find any relevant/current posts on the forum.

Any help would be terrific as I could phone my AFCO early and switch my preference to speed things up if possible.

If you can phone your AFCO early to make the change then you can phone them early to find out the score with WS entry dates. Don't make career choices based on information from an unofficial source.

Thanks to the invention of telephones, you can also ring your AFCO to speak to your careers adviser.

I can't think of any reason why your AFCO would deliberately set out to offer misleading careers advice. For those who score high enough, a technical career with transferable qualifications and a shorter wait to join, is possibly better suited to those with an interest in that field. The problem is that those who score significantly higher than the entry score required for their chosen branch may not necessarily be mentally challenged and stimulated. They grow bored, disillusioned & invariably quit.

That said, nothing worse than doing a job that doesn't interst you. MA & WS are very different, choose wisely. Wating times for both, off the top of my head, is somewhere between 18-24 months. WS(MW) & ET(ME), about six-ish.
  4. Maybe if they are switching to other trades the wait for WS will fall :D when did you sit your RT?
  5. I passed my RT in October 2013. Failed my first medical due to weight, passed second medical in March, also my PJFT in March. Just waiting on my secuirty clearance to come through.
  6. Personally i would wait it out, if you really want to go for WS but opt for something with a shorter wait to get in quicker; will it do your noggin in serving alongside WS on board? A glimpse into what could have been :p

  7. To a certain extent it may at times be irritating. However looking at medics roles online there is an option called AACC, which offers me Marine training to earn a green beret, as a medic. I'm thinking if I'm a medic in the Marines, I'll still be able to serve my country in combat situations, but also be better equipped to patch up my team when wounded.
  8. Does anybody know where you do phase 2 training for a medical assistant?

  9. Answered on the other thread you asked the question.
  10. I've been waiting just over 12 months for warfare specialist having to re do my security clearance again as it ran out lol! More than likely will have to do my mile and a half run again! But weigh two years against the rest of your life if it's really what you want to do
