Vetting (again!)

#1
I am about to complete my vetting questionnaire (waiting for the email with the link) I understand that it is done online now?

I am having difficulty of finding a suitable person from the list of acceptable countersignoatories

TBH I dont know anyone of the approved occupations listed.

I am Ex RN (left 12 years ago) and I do know an old colleague that maybe be able to sign. Issue is I havnt seen him since leaving (except the odd facebook exchange)

Would this be acceptable if not I dont know who else to ask.

Cheers

Haven’t seen him since leaving - stand fast Facebook- and not on the Approved list?

I sense that he’s not your man.

I never said he wasn't on the approved list, he is a CPO in the RN and he said it was ok to use his details, however as I said I have not met him for 12 years.

The only thing I can see in the fineprint on the vetting is you (the countersignatory) must know the nominee for at least 2 years.. nothing about the last time the nominee (me) spoke to them directly.

The countersignatory is a person on the approved list of occupations ie: doctor, Judge, chartered surveyor etc.

An acceptable countersignatory is a professional person or person of standing in the community. Such a countersignatory is likely to have credentials that can be checked and would have something to lose in terms of career or reputation by wrongly countersigning

They must have known you personally for at least two years

Got the link today. Completed it. There was no section to nominate a countersignature. So that surprised me. Infact the questions were identical to the CTC vetting I had cleared a week before (for the Ministry of justice) so it seems to be the same ... anyone know what the difference in vetting between a CTC and SC ? ie what more is done from a CTC to a SC?

Found out that the difference between CTC and SC is a credit check.

Thing is they are doing my whole check again! (even though I had a CTC clearance 2 days before I did the SC vetting application) massive waste of time and resources if you ask me...

Why do you think I applied to the RFA? No one else would take me....
Then don't question the the process just go with the flow, those that question the security process, when trying to enter a new system/area may have something to hide? It is the nature of the security types to think that way.

Oh well done 40 years, you must be proud. LOL

Mate I held a DV for over 10 years so back at you there, I am well aware of the process of background checking. My initial question was about a countersignature that I could not find. So I assumed that someone on here would be able to provide that information.

My following question was about the difference between a CTC and SC again a perfectly legitimate question, nothing to do with "suspicious" activity or behaviour. From the lack of replies it was clear that no one knew this so after speaking to NSVS I returned with the information for others (as people keep saying use the search facility, so one answer for others to find)

Your comments were totally useless and unhelpful. This forum is for help and assistance, thankfully there are some people on here that provide that.

This forum is for help and assistance,

No it's not, it's an unofficial forum, nothing to do with the RN, sometimes people will help. As for the lack of replies on the CTC and SC question, perhaps no one was interested enough to reply.

We are back to the old adage, I want answers and I want them now?

Security vetting is an odd subject as it is controlled by a specialist team that are for ever changing the rules to keep up with a changing world. Finances are now scrutinised as a potential threat, I had one clearance deferred for further checks, during a house sale / purchase relatively large sums of money can transit through your accounts, they wanted proof there was nothing dodgy going on, all it takes is a minor anomaly and they want to do more checks

As an aside, I am on the approved list as a Chartered Engineer but I don’t know any grumpy people?

Didnt need to provide any references in the end it was the exact same as the CTC just name and address and a few finance stuff.

My SC was given today so that is 26 days since completing the SC questionnaire, pretty quick. I was expecting at least 2 months..
