Welcome to the Navy Net aka Rum Ration

The UK's largest and busiest UNofficial RN website.

The heart of the site is the forum area, including:

  1. A man in the US is suing IBM for $5m in a wrongful dismissal case after he was fired for visiting adult internet chat rooms while at work.

This one takes the biscuit!!! Only in America ... at least until the rest of McWorld catches on begins joins in with yet another amazing facet of their fast food, easy money culture.

Just exactly why should IBM have to pay? He was warned and they didn't start the vietnam war ... did they?

  2. Fancy visiting an adult internet chatroom whilst at work??

  3. Yeah, it's weird, but ever since desert storm I keep having these urges to visit pervy internet sites too. Must be PTSD he he he
Honestly, what a load of toss.
Everyone breaks the rules at work but if you get caught you take your medicine.
    Poof.

  4. "He was using the Internet to self medicate" er no to have a quick one off the wrist more like.
See he's a 'Nam vet too ..MSG?
    NZB

  5. Surprised he hasnt got RSI!!!

  6. For you Managers out there to avoid a similar situation and industrial tribunals in England. Make it perfectly clear in writing that Company information Systems are not be be used at any time to surf the net and in particular sex or porn web sites.

When you have evidence report the individual to the Police for abstracting electricity (ie. stealing the power used to run the PC) then sack him for theft. He does not even have to be convicted or cautioned providing you follow th procedures correctly and have sufficient evidence for a civil case ie. based on the preponderance of probabilities.

    Nutty

PS that is assuming you are allowed to sack someone for theft these days.
