    Posted here to give you an idea of how bad things have got on the other side of the pond. Meanwhile the old Arleigh Burkes (first concieved of in the 1980s) are due to remain in series production until 2040, and probably in service till nearly 2080. Thats nearly 100 years - or akin to us having just paid off the last pre-dreadnought design just 5 years ago...

    Given the US is going to reduce its defence budget by the entire UK defence budget, year on year for the next 5 years, I think there is a huge strategic shift brewing. THe US kit is getting a lot older, and they face many similar strategic issues to ourselves, but people think they don't face problems due to just looking at the overall budget totals. If you think we're in trouble, then talk to the US forces personel and our problems pale by comparison.
