Probe blames sailor's curiosity for Nerpa tragedy
Twenty sailors and technicians died in the Russian-built Akula I-class submarine Nerpa after a crew member activated its fire-extinguishing system (FES) "out of curiosity", it has emerged. Investigators with the Russian Prosecutor General's Office found that the sailor gained access to the boat's temperature control panel using a five-digit code, which was written on the panel in pencil


The Russian sub was being prepared for transfer to the Indian navy.
