Heating!!!!!!!! You're lucky in my day we had to put up with a duffle coat and some Chi. Well perhaps not, but I remember plenty of times when sat in Pompey over leave periods with no steam heating.

Maybe they can reclaim some of that money from the lesbian to buy some more heaters for the lads. :)

Pretty sorry state of affairs really and its not the first time this sort of thing has happened to be honest and I can remember being sat on the Notty with no heating and no hot water a few times.

When you where on the Notty, you wouldnt have felt the cold, most of your time was spent under the duvet.

We used to dream of heating!
All we had was a candle between 72 of us,and some times they even lit it.

Candle, You were lucky

We had some earwax and if lucky a piece of cotton through the middle of it

It was never lit, just for show, to prove we had heating

Try entering the Ogin from a Sub in the North sea in January only to find out that your dry suit has a leak in one of the feet.
Now that's what I call cold!
I did get a nice big Tot off the Boat's Captain to thaw me out though. Top man

Try doing a rapid drain down from the fore'd escape tower whilst sitting on the bottom of a Norwegian fiord in winter wearing just nicks and flip flops.
The skipper gave us a bollicking for getting the deck wet. :thumright:

Re: It's icy on board as ship's heating fails

The father of a sailor serving in Nottingham, now mothballed before being scrapped, said: 'The navy should be treating its people better.

'At night they are having to put on all their clothes to keep the cold out.

God save us all!!

'It's ludicrous when they are a few hundred yards from centrally-heated homes.
Can they afford to put on the central heating one asks

'The hot water went earlier this week so they have even had to take cold showers on occasion.' Cold showers stimulates the brain and is good for the soul

We had "black" heaters in the mess, point 2 W
In the morning the mess dhoby bucket had frozen solid
No downies in those days just a wool blanket and if found sleeping in clothing trooped
The reggies took great delight in actually doing a morning watch (never before heard of) to drag souls out of their pit and troop them

At least in 68 you were spared the dealings of 60 where they cut the hammock rope and then trooped you

I expect no matter what the year if a ship is sat dead then you freeze at night, it is a disgrace

Re: It's icy on board as ship's heating fails

Joking aside, though, still a bad reflection.

Wasn't much fun for Dumbo in Winter (South) '00 (electric generator failure with nothing shoreside). Rapid need to find space (what's that?) in MPA for the ship's company.

(Guy H, if you read this stuff; all the best and I've caught you up!)
