At least twice, maybe three times per day I am alerted that ' An unidentified programme requires access to your computer'. 'Set up. exe', Unidentified publisher. My security says only accept if you know where it's from. Is this something normal? I'm getting fed up with continually pressing 'do not accept'.

Check your virus checker is up to date and running. Also check your firewall is on, it's in control panel.
If it tells you what it's called, this setup.exe file, then virus check it first before you do anything.
if virus check says it's ok, then click ok and it should start installing and also tell you what it's for. If you need it then install it, if not delete it.
Do not click yes or ok if your virus checker flags it up! Just delete it!
it may be an update for something on your machine that automatically downloaded from the net.
Always be suspect of anything that tries to run on your machine, even if it does tell you who the publisher is!
    Hope that helps a bit!

Cheers for that. I'll give it a try.
