Welcome to the Navy Net aka Rum Ration

The UK's largest and busiest UNofficial RN website.

The heart of the site is the forum area, including:

  1. "but it will not be until 2011 that its defence systems will be fully functional"

It doesn't mean the missile system won't work until 2011 it's just a sensationalist headline. 2011 is when the full evaluation of the whole combat system is due to finish.

You may or may not be surprised to learn that there are several systems on T42 that have never been formally accepted into service - they can still fire Sea Dart though
  2. "The committee said the situation was "deeply worrying" and had serious implications for Britain's air defence capabilities. ....... Liam Fox, the shadow defence secretary, said: "This report highlights the extraordinary risk that this Government is taking with our nation's defences in an increasingly volatile world."

Were they saying things like that when they withdrew the Sea Harrier?
  3. Yep they certainly did and during GW2 wasn't the RN fleet air cover provided by yanks and the Fench. As long as it didn't interfere with there assets first though  God bless politicians now were is that expense receipt :p
  4. Funny old World; it isn’t that long ago that Fox's keeper was saying:

  5. Well, as long as we don;t need to shoot down any Mach 3 cricket balls between now and 2011 we will be fine…
