Treadmill speed for PJFT

180mikey_

Newbie
Hi all,

I have passed my medical and have booked my PJFT for a few weeks time. I understand when I arrive at the gym they'll set the correct speed for me on the treadmill? Does anybody know what speed the treadmill will be set at?

Thanks!

So, let's look at this. That's 2400m in 11 minutes, 9 seconds, or 669 seconds.

Therefore your speed will be 2400/669 = 3.587 metres per second. Multiply by 3600 and then divide by 1000.

So this gives you 12.914 km/hour. So I'd pitch for about 13 k/hr.

Good luck with your RT tests...:D

A quick heads up....they will NOT set the speed or help you in any way at all as it will void your test. Do not stop or do what I did pressed 1.3km speed instead of 13 speed haha I had to sprint at 18km for last 2 mins to catch up !!

Best of luck fella !

That does not reflect my experience at all. The staff at the centre I was sent to set the speed for me quite happily, and even told me with 2 minutes to go that I could slow it down a little bit if I wanted to and would still make the time.

The staff at the Nuffield hospital I sat my PJFT at said 13.2km was a good starting speed for my run to achieve 11mins09secs..... So I ramped it up to 14.5kmph and off I went

They are generally very helpful, so you shouldn't have any trouble with them helping you work out the best time for your target. But definitely try and to go a bit faster and give it your all.

Best of luck 180mikey!

I'd say start off at 13.6km/h this time alone will bring you incomfotably and just keep knocking it up 0.1-0.2km/h every minute or so...I did this and it brung me at a time of 9:56s and I'm not good on treadmills at all...

Good Luck!

I had my pjft back in December 16, the staff for me did not set a minimum speed however when i practised at my local gym i found this to be best way, i ran 12.5-12.8 to warmup for 1min 30 then upped to 15, i then slowly upped it until the last 400 metres i did a sprint at 19kmph, that got me a time of 10mins which i was happy with. If you want minimum speed then i worked it out to be 13.8 but the treadmill takes about 40 seconds to get to that speed so i would reccomend 14.2 to be safe

Is there an incline on the treadmill? Or is it just set to normal flat?

Cheers

I had to run mine in 11.33 and was set to 12.4 speed... But you can change it faster if u want.... The set speed untouched make you complete it 10 secs before you need to

Hiya, he is 16 and I was suppose to put a 1 before the 8 haha - 18.5 I think he said!

Haha no worries that sounds about right anyhow, unless the treadmill was set to MPH rather than KPH.. then 8.5mph would be around 13.5 kph if my maths is correct.
