Traveling while waiting to join?

Welcome to the Navy Net aka Rum Ration

The UK's largest and busiest UNofficial RN website.

The heart of the site is the forum area, including:

  1. Currently on the waiting list to start training, they've told me it's going to be over a year how would it affect my application if I travelled during that time?
  2. As long as you don't injure yourself I don't know if it would as you aren't in the RN yet.
  3. Check with your afco as the country/amount of time can affect the validity of your security clearance.
  4. Obviously check with your AFCO before you do anything but if they say there's no poblem, go for it. I spent a year working in France/Portugal while I was waiting and it beats sitting in an office/stacking shelves back in the UK.

  5. I would second Rachel's advice.

Spending a year in Russia may not do your security clearance any favours. Some countries will be obvious, some less so. Also be careful of personal security and details while you are travelling. Think about your cyber footprint too (good advice even if you stay at home).
