The effect I'm after is to cheer myself up and hopefully make people laugh. As an outlet for banter this is mediocre, but it does the job until I can see Blackrat, Monty and 2DD again and skiff their beer glasses (sherry glass in the case of 2DD).

May be if we send the site link to old ship associations that any of us are associated to, it may increase the members?

Increase the numbers of piss soaked old fuckers who create threads about pussers hard, dirty poofters and the tot maybe.

Bob has a point, very few threads involve actual discussion or banter anymore, they resemble chat rooms and veer off all the time.

Perhaps it's time to look at adding more moderators to pay close attention and try to stamp down a bit on thread drift.

If you refer to my debate in B&B thread what was wrong with that. I took up a point and pursued it without frivolity, and pursued what I thought was a valid point.
I gave no opinion as to whether or not I approve of Homosexuality which would make little difference either way if I had.
I express no opinion on religion, only a view that all be treated the same.
I do not enter into heavy debate, not because I have no opinions or am incapable of expressing them.
I as stated visit this forum for light relief and banter with like minded people who do not need me to define every word I use that broaches naval nonsense.
I never attack the youngsters in the mob and do not decry their achievements, in fact have praised them in as much as they do a real heap despite not having the tools or backing we did, and shit runs ashore to boot.
Now and again I do confront in a serious forum but that depends on the subject and the poster.
The case you refer to was because the poster kept hinting at his vastly superior knowledge of the subject in hand, without defining his privy to the source he kept suggesting he had. He never did in fact and to me if you know, being asked to quote you're source is not unreasonable. Unless of course you work for the daily mail and then the law operates differently.
And as for staying within my bounds, well I had an education of good grounding and far from the illiterate buffoon I act and portray myself as in threads.
After all as we keep being told within these portals, it's all only make believe and and real life starts when you log off.
