Thoughts about this action by Greenpeace?

For what it's worth my tuppenceworth - Greenpeace may have worthy aims but I can't help noticing their desire to show off in front of the press and they seem to have scant respect for common sense, seamanship or overall safety. This was particularly irritating some years back when they decided to make a protest about the SSNs going into Devonport and were prepared to put small boats in front of submarines who were highly constrained by shallow water. Did they think that one through or did their logic mean that a grounded SSN or a dead protestor proved their point even though they had created the situation in the first place? Fortunately the security boats were able to prevent that happening but Greenpeace were highly irresponsible in my book and the main reason I won't support them. I also remember an oil pollution incident off South Devon in the early 1990s where a Greenpeace ship ponced up and down in the HMS CAMBRIDGE areas "overseeing" the clean up effort (no one asked them) and flew its Helo off in airspace that was restricted to spraying aircraft only.

On Nutty's comment earlier in this thread about the New Zealand authorities caving in to the French after the Rainbow Warrior bombing, I would point out something that I heard from a RNZN colleague some time back. This was that the two French agents that were captured were frequently moved around between jails for fear that the French authorities would try to carry out an armed jailbreak for them. As I understood it, it was only when the French government applied overwhelming economic pressure on the NZ government to get special release terms for their two personnel that the NZ authorities had to cave in. This disgraceful incident is definitely not forgotten in Kiwiland and I dare say they have a rather jaundiced view of what the definition of a terrorist is.

Once again the protesters AGAINST a subject have caught the headlines. When the announcement was made that he government would debate the replacement of the Trident Submarine (not the missile system) an on-line poll with AOL showed that 74% agreed with it (over 10,000 were polled)

What do you think would happen if someone out there started a PRO-NUCLEAR PROTEST. Inviting the general public to stand up and shout for our right to hold the deterrent in these times of worldwide unrest.

In a quote from A Few Good Men, "We walk the wall so that our children can sleep safely in their beds".
This also allows the bloody protesters the right to peacefull protest.

If anyone got the protest FOR going it would show these ********* that they are actually in the minority, then they might all f*ck off and get a job!

I must admit that I have very mixed fealings about Greepeace, they have too often attacked companies and governments with bad science, most notably over the Brent Spar where they were proved to be completely wrong. On the otherhand I know a guy (ex plod) who whilst still in the plod instructed plod rib drivers in how to counter Greenpeace protests on the water. He did say that he had the utmost repect for their seamanship and boat handling skill even if he disagreed with their action.

Greenpeace has a rite to protest................

An the armed forces have a rite to get on with the job that they are required to do

As long as Greenpeace stay within the law of the land let them come................

But if they breach the law they must face the consequences of their actions

They can't expect the goverment sit around while Greenpeace play their little games

Thats my peace said

Am I the only one wondering why there haven't been any Greenpeace RIBs sailing around Iranian waters and chaining themselves to Iranian military installations? :???:

I would have thought that the development of a nuclear capability in that country would have been a higher priority than Faslane.

Or have I missed something . . . ?

You are right there Peter.
When working in Egypt I and several colleagues had to renew our visa's. The police officer at the station filled in the forms for us and in the box for religion filled in something in Arabic. My mate asked what it said, jokingly I stated Infidel, correct said the police officer. To Muslims if you are not a follower of Islam then you are an Infidel (non believer) so much for statements that Islam is supportive of other religions.

I don't mind greenpeace so much as I used to hate CND, they were an offensive bunch of twots, gobbing at us etc. But then those were the days when the OOD would turn a blind eye when you skelped a couple of them.
As far as breaching mod turf, that's different, in this day and age we cannot afford to let these ships anywhere near our boys, how are we to know it isn't al queerda with a rainbow boat full of explosives? We need to wake up, too much pc let them protest calls when it could be a trojan horse.
We are at war, and still security is lacking. Not good.

CND used to try to sabotage ROC Monitoring Posts during NATO exercises with the occupants inside in the 1980s! There was only a single hatchway to get in and out and this also provided the only ventilation - as most monitoring posts did not have pumped ventilation systems (cost too much!). CND used to come along, close the hatch whilst you were inside and use superglue in the padlocks to stop them being easily opened. People could have suffocated from CO2 poisoning as it could build up fairly quickly if your post was in the middle of a change over: six people in a tiny monitoring room. Eventually we were issued with padlocks that had to be manually locked and these were locked in position on the hatchway lugs to prevent CND members locking us in!

They will not be feeling so good seeing as their ship got impounded and is sitting alongside at Faslane with the spooks crawling all over it.

They may have a strange perspective on life, but they are not daft, they will have known that the ship was going to be seized and prepared accordibngly.

Having spoken to a plod involved in action against them they are a pretty smart bunch and understand the risk of any action they take very well. He said that they plan every operation meticulously and to cope with them you have to do the same

Is that compared to the MoD Plod? The same MoD Plod who took over 9 hours to secure the boat. Meticulous planning (by the MoD), my arse! It all smells of political interference and a hands off attitude. The same attitude shown to the illegal land squatters of the "peace camp".
At least the activists spent longer in custody than they expected and it was only last Friday that the dock yard tugs towed the Arctic Sunrise down the Clyde.

Just like Friends of the Earth then, highly intelligent (well the leaders are) The rank and file, like all terrorists are not allowed to think, might get the wrong idea and help instead of 'stormingin'.

Well you need to be slightly mentally defective to do some of the stunts they indulge in! All very well risking life and limb for your mates, but for tomorrows breakfast? .....come on  (nice bit of whale steak for breakfast is grand, so's a bit of cow steak so I guess they'll be defending them next. The crusties want us all to eat museli - good for rabbits but 'umans! I'd rather have the rabbit!)

I totally fail to understand how you can describe any GreenPeace activist as a terrorist. Who have they ever killed, unlike the French Military, our allies who engaged with on joint exercises, planning, training. Perhaps both our Government and Senior Officers from today should refuse to have any contact with that Terrorist Organization.
