The Surveillance Society Marches on...

According to today's Times (21 May 2007), the government are planning to require doctors, charity workers and volunteers as well as social security staff to report customers who have mental health problems, are alcoholic or have a violent background, to the police so that they can be put under police surveillance just in case they commit a future crime!

See:
Times report.
BBC Online.

It looks like all ex-Service personnel could end up being monitored by the Police!

Hmmm. Why does this sound familiar . . . 1930s Germany? Soviet Union? :?

Next thing you know, they'll be taking people into "protective custody" purely on the grounds that they might commit a crime in the future. Oh, hang on, they are considering it aren't they? :?
