Welcome to the Navy Net aka Rum Ration

The UK's largest and busiest UNofficial RN website.

The heart of the site is the forum area, including:

  1. Has anybody on here read this? It was published in 2011 despite being written in 1942, and is based on his time in the US merchant marines (which wasnt very long). I really wanted to like it even though i am not a huge fan of his, and it was an enjoyable enough read and all but i think i missed the point of a lot of it. Anyhow i read it and wondered if anyone who had been to sea enjoyed it a bit more? I was speaking to someone who has and he said that he captured the essence of certain aspects of being a sailor ie) comradeship etc, just wondering what anyone else thought!
  2. Never heard of it but as he only served in the US Merchant Marine for 8 days (wiki dit) I can't imagine it would be that in depth.
