The Return of the Warrant Officer Two

London

Badgeman
So seven years after being abolished the WO2 rank is returning in 2021 - this time for non-tech branches as well. WO1s will drop from 1000 to around 200-300 by around 2026 according to 1SL.

According to 2SL WO, the changes will restore the cachet to the WO1 rank (his words) - the latter will be 1% of RN personnel.

Charge Chiefs all became WO2s, it wasn't a promotion per se.

I vaguely remember reminded him of that fact at one time.
Told him he was a charge chief not a real WO
He told me he had a warrant to say he was a WO :)

Charge Chiefs bleated for years that they should be WO2's, they got a substantive rate and white ovies. Those of us who didn't want to go Charge had our pay capped at Level 7, the next two levels were for WO2's, as Charges were only tiffs that meant all CPO tiffs/mechs had their pay capped.

That went down well

Glad I turned down the poison chalice that was extended service then.

And now everyone gets their pay capped at level 7 instead!

I remember being at Sultan on a course and was sat in the Senior Rates Mess at breakfast when all these people came in with strange rate badges, didn't even know we were getting WO2 (the first time). Apparently it was the day they were all told to wear the new rate slides.
