A big BZ to all concerned, although it does seem rather regrettable that a former First Sea Lord should have to wait until after his retirement to receive the high honour awarded to most of his predecessors whilst still serving.

He didn’t and they don’t. He was already a Knight Commander of the Bath. He’s now been elevated above previous 1SLs taking into account Admiral West is a political Lord and Admiral (oF) Boyce is an Independent and ennobled by virtue of having been CDS.
