Us and them, why was it better way back when compared to today's mob.. :hockey:

No, sorry, there's to many police officers armed with todays laws that make right cnuts of themselves to arm them with instant decision tools.

Royalty v Republic

An ongoing and often heated debate with bloody wars fought through the ages . I favour Royalty providing the ruling monarch and family behave like royals and worthy of respect . Further , to have a degree of power and authority not a rubber stamp for politicians and only give titles where desrved ie servicemen and women not pop stars and the like

Is there a conspiracy to mislead the British people or are we as a nation so thick that people honestly don't know the difference between asylum seekers and immigrants?

Why aren't people ashamed of being seen reading tabloid newspapers?

Why is there so much bad spelling on this sight (sic)* - does the RN attract those rejected by the other forces?

edited for bad spelling!

I think Blobb's post is a bit obscure, because unless a female had one of each, she wouldn't be able to join the debate on equal terms.

There's a few I like so far:

Harry's:
Should we actively recruit professionals from developing or poor countries to work as engineeers, doctors, nurses, trades people, etc.?

and

Does morality need God?

After SSE's
Young barely wet behind the ears vs Old miserable buggers

Hobbit's
Royalty v Republic

And NZB's
Are Royal Marines argumentative or just a little converse?

Keep them coming though and opinions on the current list appreciated.

Edited to add:

Golden Rivet'sWhy aren't people ashamed of being seen reading tabloid newspapers?

If a giant war broke out between all major powers who's navy fleet would win?

Bit of fantasy but ....

One or two that might stimulate some lively debate:

1. Political Correctness: Fact or Fiction?

2. The conflicting interests of Church and State: Is it time for a legal separation in the United Kingdom?

3. Renewable Energy: The way ahead for the United Kingdom.

4. Identity Cards: “If you have nothing to hide, you have nothing to fearâ€. Discuss.

5. The European Union: Should the UK be in or out?

6. The Turner Prize: One of the most important and prestigious awards for the visual arts in Europe or cold mechanical, conceptual bullshit?

7. The Royal Navy: Down by the head with two and a halfs or what?

To end needless suffering and pain or prolong a life that is almost at end . A big issue with the religious community . I for one support mercy killing

Chief, With the Turner Prize almost upon us I quite like Tattoo Dog's 'Tracy Emin - talented artist or pretentious twaddle?'. You could widen his question by substituting 'Turner Prize' or 'Modern Art' for Tracy Emin. I imagine it could produce a lively debate between a small minority and the apoplectic!

I was avoiding that, mostly because I like Tracy Emin! I was more concerned that we would end up with a debate about "My Bed" But I see your point it could be tweaked or sod it we could expose RR to some of her other work, I guarantee some people would like at least some of it!

* Is the use of political correctness in discussion meaningful or just intellectual laziness?

*What does the epithet liberal actually mean, socialist or libertarian?

*Should the freedom to exercise the franchise require an assessment of competence?

*Globalisation is a bad thing (tm) for the UK, yes or no?
