The Corps in a nutshell: What the RM is really about.

#1
Here is a fantastic read written by an academic at the request of the RM in 2004. It is long but well worth the read.

Discussion of 'ethos' can present difficulties but each and every academic discussion is replete with actual examples drawn from RM history, past and present, including some very illuminating accounts of the open fight between Royal Marines, The Globe and Laurel and Royal Marines Commandos. I am betting this is required reading on the YO course, but would love to think the occassional DL or PW (the PTI would be asking too much!) has seen it and used the very many examples provided when attempting to explain what many of these terms mean. Fantastic.

PS Don't forget to read the footnotes, there are some real gems there!
PPS Cheers to NZ for advice on creating the Word link :thumright:

Ninja, Sounds good. It really does get down to the nuts and bolts of what being in the Corp is about. As I said, the examples are drawn from training, exercises, RM and RN history and combat, past and present. I reckon Anthony King's paper was the defining paper for the new website. People could skip pages 1 and 2 if they so wish and begin at page 3.
Cheers,
Harry

As you've seen I thought I would combine the report with a Colour Blindness test, :w00t: . Changed it now to the tamer version as it just about gave me an epilectic attack :pukel:

I put this up at 2244 last night when most of our potential booties would be curled up in bed after a hard days training so I hope RumRats understand if I give it a little ... Bump! :thumright:

Great read, Harry, only I worry that the average RR potential recruits will see ethos and think its the flask thing that keeps your tea warm..... :w00t:
