Don't be silly, they are for keeping in the loft for 4 years after you leave the mob, along with 7 pairs of ovies (BNWT as they said on EBay) and 5 brand new Nos 8s shirts. What the hell did the PO Stoker need with 15 pairs of brand new socks?

I presume the brand new No.8 shirts had something to do with the fireproof coating - we had that in the RNXS so I presume you real sailors had them? I just washed, and rewashed the fireproofing stuff out as it was so uncomfy - but of course a PO Stoker needs to be fireproof, if only to be able to have a late night fag after lights-out in the heads. :lol:

You can never have too much pussers kit!!! I've got shed loads I just can't bear to part with which I keep telling SWMBO I will shortly be putting on Ebay!!!

Regarding FREE pussers socks - can you imagine how much taxpayers money has been wasted on giving Jack 2 free pairs a month, every month. You never need to dhoby them !!!! - The money the mob would have saved by making you get your own would be enough for a couple of 45's or a 23 at least, it's not like you would have turned too without socks on because they weren't issued would you?

Just walk into stores, have a chat with the civvy dude behind the counter and he'll slip you a few free pairs off the record.

KUA ceased in about 1992 - Pusser realised he was paying out about 152 million in KUA and getting back about £6.57 in sales at slops!!!

Everything is on a one for one exchange now (including socks) but I've never been asked for any old socks when getting the new ones. It's great in December when you're skint, everyone gets a couple of pairs!!!!

Can't stand the thin ones myself. I never wear them; too slippy.

Thick ones are for winners. I might even be caught wearing them shoreside although not in front of matelots for fear of being slabbed.
