That Sinking Feeling: Iran’s Anti-Ship Missile Array

Discussion in 'Current Affairs' started by TeddyT, Sep 19, 2012.

Welcome to the Navy Net aka Rum Ration

The UK's largest and busiest UNofficial RN website.

The heart of the site is the forum area, including:

  1. "With so much attention and emotion devoted to Iran’s militarily irrelevant (and non-existent) nuclear weapons, the fact that Iran has, en masse, deployed missiles that really affect the regional balance of power has largely gone unnoticed."

At sea and on land, Iran has fielded a layered network of modern anti-ship missiles that can threaten the entire Persian Gulf and the waters far beyond. All of these weapons have been sourced from China, which has helped Iran to implement a well-conceived plan for maximum sea control

    Not really unnoticed.
  3. This goes back to '87 and the rumoured Silkworm missiles. It was a challenge looking for something that we didn't know what to look for...

Unnoticed only by the main stream media and thus the general population.
  4. Iran knows full damn well that they could not outlast any serious western 'intervention' but they also know launching thousands of anti-shipping missiles in one colossal strike will result in Allied losses. It would only take the loss of a T45 or a Nimitz (of which the US has three on station) to mollify the Iranians that they are partially successful.

No wonder the UN are terrified Israel might do something provocative.
  5. Not exactly news, we've been playing this scenario in the sims for decades. As a baby golly we were consistently taught about Iran's silkworm and Seersucker threat.

It's also gone unnoticed by the mainstream media that there's a big naval build up happening in that part of the world.
  7. .

So what is this "armada" of ships going to do if an aggresive strike is flown over the gulf ?

You know, the one from Israel ?
