The numbers could be cut if those stats are accurate but they do play an important role in tourism and national pride. Also many of them are actually front line units anyway when not doing ceremonial duties.

Percy is waay overborne then. Cardigan led about 650 horses at the charge of the light brigade 150 years ago why do they need 3000 now?

Merlin if it's good for tourism then Boris Johnson should pick up the bill not the RN.

Not when they are in Windsor he won't, maybe the queen should pay for them as they are mainly for her pleasure. The RN don't pay for them it's the Army.

The retired SO2 seems to be selling tickets on the outrage bus. Prof Groves, on the other hand, makes a very strong and succinct point.

Cuts to the Household Division would be at the expense of Liz walking round with a major sad on for yonks and Phil the Greek being investigated by the RSPCA for kicking the corgis up the arris.
However culling the Pipes and Drums of the Jocks and Irish Guards sounds like a good start.
Ah, sod it cull all the Household Bands and just call in Royal apparently we can play anything.*

*Apart from those big nags carrying the kettle drums, bugger lugging those things around for a load carry.

If you listen to the buzzes it's the Navy that is about to be slashed not the Army, hence my comment that the Navy are paying for them. Lose an assault ship or two so percy can keep his geegees.

This 'regimental' band would then support all Army regiments, musically, in the same way the the RM and RAF bands do at present.

Just a minor point; what would the regiments' medics do with all that additional gash time?
