Telephone Interview

Is it okay to quote the First Sea Lord in my RN telephone interview because he made a poignant point that I believe encapsulates one of the reasons why I want to join?.

"In order to protect interests at
home the UK must project influence abroad.
To do so requires the ability to project power overseas
and to use the UK’s unique network of alliances and
relationships – principally with the United States but
also as a member of NATO and the European Union.
The National Security Strategy (NSS) is clear; the
UK must maintain the capability to act well beyond
our shores and work with allies to have a strategic
presence wherever we need it."

Cheers.

Personally, I wouldn't think that would be necessary. In fact, I think I'd be in bits, laughing.

Good luck though.
Yeah I don't want to be thought of as a sycophant. I keep pondering the question "why do you want to join" I don't want my genuine answer to be interpreted as selfish because ultimately I'm doing it for myself.

That quote doesn’t actually answer the question of why you personally want to join. Maybe tell them the point it encapsulates for you instead of quoting the whole thing.

Just tell the truth. Honestly, if I was recruiting, I probably wouldn't accept that as an answer, sounds a bit cheesy.
Write down why you do want to join.

The bit in bold works for me. Anyone can quote someone else, just proves you have a good memory. Not altogether from the heart sort of stuff is it.
Thinking about it. The quote kinda hits my 'cringe' muscle.
