"The Ministry of Defence is considering using huge drones to patrol Britain’s coastline to help replace the axed Nimrod surveillance aircraft.

A military team will travel to America this summer to train for two months on the US navy’s Triton reconnaissance drone which has the wingspan of a small airliner and can fly at a height of 10 miles for more than 24 hours."

  2. It would be interesting to see that execute an attack solution on an AKULA or DOLDORUIY in the North Atlantic.
  3. You and I both know that's not what TRITON is for.

  4. Thought they just forked out a load of $$$ for some RC rivetted airframe thingies that were mothballed. Spent numeri ££'s upgrading the things and rewrote the airworthyness SOP so they could fly them with out of date airframes???

From the Telegraph, not known for its expertise on Defence matters.

The MoD use the term, Remotely Piloted Air System, not 'drone'. I think the 'defence' source may be the arse of a journalist.
