Telegraph: "Armed Forces 'Should Recruit More Part-time Soldiers', Review Urges"

Discussion in 'Royal Naval Reserve (RNR)' started by soleil, Jun 4, 2011.

Welcome to the Navy Net aka Rum Ration

The UK's largest and busiest UNofficial RN website.

The heart of the site is the forum area, including:

  1. commence bunfight, salty old regulars v's rnr
  2. Why? The article doesn't discuss RNR, only TA. The two are quite different kettles of fish.

Hasn't the TA just had savage cuts to it's training budget? Great advert for potential part time young thrusters.

"Join the TA and do fcuk all"

Instead of this "forces lite" bollox favoured by most politicians how about funding for three or four permanant additional infantry battalions to help the poor sods who are permanantly on Ops/beat down/beat up/Ops/beat down/beat up/Ops.

Mind you, this is asking alot, especially from the clowns who thought scrapping the Ark Royal would save money.
  4. I always twitch when I read reports that focus on cost with scant reference to utility, readiness times, deployability etc - the US 50:50 ratio Regular to Reserve is a real red herring, their entire ethos is so different to the UK that this number is completely meaningless.
