Had my first AFCO meeting yesterday, everything went fine. Told them and showed them my tattoo on my wrist and they were pretty sure the uniform would cover this, but I also have another tattoo which I thought would be of no issue because is always covered, but as I see in the booklet they gave me- 'excessive tattoos' are forbidden. It goes round my belly button in Tribal design and up the one side of my ribs, about an inch bellow my chest. If anyone has any info on what is classed as an 'excessice tattoo' it would be greatly appreciated. Thanks
Bootie Pictures !!!!! that is just a pin prick, compared to matelots tatts, you need to go back to you local tatts artiste, and ask for the huntsmans chase :p

Re: Joining the Royal Marines, but is my tattoo 'exessive'?

It's very much worth bearing in mind that rules regarding tattoos have changed over the years so whilst you may well see the odd heavily tattooed person already serving, the rules for those yet to join are more stringent.

Whenever there is difficulty gaining an objective selection decision, the AFCO will photograph the tattoo for a decision to be made by the staff of Captain Naval Recruiting.

The service is not "ant-tattoo" however as a supposedly disciplined service there are set rules which applicants must accept. Those who wish to explore the boundaries of the selection criteria are very welcome to do so, but should not be overly surprised if they deselect themselves.

The advice to those considering getting tattoos, is to be sure not to stray in the grey area of murky, subjective acceptability.

For those that find themselves in this void already: Best of luck.

That tattoo doesn't sound excessive.

It does sound fucking chad though.

....with an info copy CC'd to Soleil.

It is regretted that the OP was too late for the recent Cops Calendar photo call:

I wouldn't worry too much..It will probably wash off after the first 'mud run' in the Exe.
