Tabloids anyone

Reading an article somewhere the other day and thought the following had an element of truth:

Tabloids tend to attract the weaker-minded reader, providing him/her with cursory titillation. People of average intelligence have little to do with them.

Cap, fit and all that....;)

I stopped wasting money on shit sheets years ago. They're full of lazy, inept and inaccurate stories.

For me it was the demise of the News of the Screws - I learnt all my big words from that
Some years ago, one of the Journo's that I had any time for, (there weren't many) told me that you could believe most of what you read in the NoW, if it wasn't fairly near the truth they would have out of business through being sued. This was in the old Broadsheet days of the NoW, some of the stories that came out, rarely followed by court actions were amazing.

I read the Mail on-line. I know - I'm a bad person, an extreme right wing everyone/thing hater, a bigot, a racist etc etc.

But it is an very easy format to read and does supply some 'true' news stories. More importantly, it is free! I've also found out how to stop the pop up video. I do actually dislike all the 'Selina shows off her amazing abs' type stories down the right hand side - generally because I have no idea who any of them are! Not 'cos I've caught the ghey!

I also use a couple of English language Spanish on-line papers.

But for the real news and facts, I rely on Rum Ration, ARRSE and Facebook.

It always amused me going down the boat to take over the Sunday duty and there'd be a NoW and Sunday Sport in the mess but no-one ever admitted buying them, they just appeared..spooky or what

I find the Telegraph quite good - although aligned to the Tories they are not afraid to have a go at them when warranted - and hold Labour, SNP and Corbynism in absolute contempt (but explains why)

For a hysterical lead and a jump into La La Land have a look at the Express and their aliens and planets going to extinguish all life next month ;)

I know a lovely old lady who is an utter, UTTER champagne socialist and reads the Guardian. Last time we were there I leafed through it.

What a load of dross. Even the magazine was crap!

The one I have a chuckle at is the "Independent".....yea right!
I get most of my news these days from the interweb thingy. I look at the headline in relation to UK politics in the main....and move on if the edetorial is from the above mentioned rag.

For much of journalism these days, the rule of thumb is 'never allow the truth to get in the way of a good story'....

^Aye @Dusty70 - Very little choice other than the DT for a conservative with lower-case c.

Rather sad that they still insist on padding out the lead page, halfway down on quiet days, with a fistful of re-runs from when PMBoJo was a well-paid contributor - Some of those articles were/are still quite good but I'm paying hard -earned Pensioner's ££s and if I wanted an old story I'd search their archives for it!

Agree with your observation on the Express's doom mongers from outa outer space but you had forgotten to add that their pages are also toppers with Royal articles. (the Firm that is, not Royal the hoofing yomping lovat variant.)
