I heard a Shackleton on the boat's sonar in the mid 80s - I thought the UCs were winding me up!
A lad I went to school with, who joined the RAF in 1986, did the maintenance for what must have been the last in Shackleton's in service with the RAF right up to the 1990s. He said it was 20000 rivets flying in close formation. He actually managed a couple of flights on one as he was after being a flight engineer.
