That COULD be construed as a racial slur / hate statement in some parallel universe. I've been called a PJ and a FRISP and other funny things, like Porrige Wog - all part of the banter. But these days........ could be seen as being racist. If I can't call a person of colour a n******, why can somebody call me PJ?

Yes, there are some numpties in the 'Burg who 'hate' the English. They also 'hate' Protestants / Catholics, Rangers / Celtic (delete as required) and if they are employed, the irony is it is probably in or relies on the Base.

There are many in the Base who 'hate' being in Faslane, mainly prompted by comments on pages such as our's and other RN sites. OK Faslane is a bit out of the way, but if one gets off their arse and looks around, anything is possible sports and social wise. However, it will not come looking for you and you are advised to have personal transport, which is not possible if you are on a ship/boat visit. I knew of a few Eng Support chiefs who were non-submariners - who had ASKED for Faslane because of the unique facilities offered in their areas of interest.

On at least two occasions I had a cabin in the Base accommodation as there was so much going on it was more convenient than staying in the family house in the Burg.

Other end of the scale we had a stoker aircrew diver in the mess - 845 on the Bulwark - 'Geordie B' is he on here?

I can ask on FB Aircrewies group!!! I was 848 myself so can't think of any of the 845 lads. A stoker crewman and diver to boot!!! Impressed.

Thanks for asking. Not too bad - active cases of Covid about 12km away. Lots of 25 - 40ish don't seem to think masks are required, but on the whole, everyone is complying.

We are still 'hiding' out away from everyone, as my leader is 'at risk', but we have everything we want/need - our cats and dogs, stunning sea views, lots of sun, lots of supplies and the odd bottle of DF! Then every month Pusser makes a generous contribution to my bank account! So life is good!

We're not going out for meals, which we miss, but I've been out and got a couple of take-aways recently. There always seems to be plenty to do - SWMBO makes sure of that, then Neflix/Prime and a sneaky satellite takes care of the rest.

Got a name, Blackie Blackman, he was a stoker Aircrew SAR Diver. It was before the crewies branch was formed so he would have been a MEM or LMEM Aircrew Commando/SAR Diver!!!! What a mouth full!!!

Edited to say, Blackie was the only Stoker SAR diver of that period. Also had the name confirmed by a second ex Junglie crewman. He, (Blackie) was still on 845 in 1970. May have returned to parent branch in 1971 as most serving aircrewman were given the option of transferring to the new AIrcrewman Branch or revert back to parent trade, in Blacks case - Stoker!!

Evidently, Blackie left the RN in 71 or 72 and my contact lost contact with him shortly after. Blackie isn't a member of the association so the road ends there I think!!

We had quite a few flying chefs. One Andy Vanes BEM VD and scar is still flying at the grand age of 'kin ancient. He even gets to fly as crew in the Swordfish. He does a mean BBQ too I believe!!!! On the ground that is and not on the wing!!!!
