Starting the RNR with degree

Welcome to the Navy Net aka Rum Ration

The UK's largest and busiest UNofficial RN website.

The heart of the site is the forum area, including:

  1. Hi,

Are there any ratings on the lower deck with a degree/post-grad? I'm starting new entry soon as NE but I have an MA.

    Thanks

There are lots. I started out in the RNR as a student, graduated, stayed in the RNR, then joined the RN after sampling the delights of industry.

  6. Lots and lots. The minimum educational requirement to go for AIB (and thus the min education for officers) stops at A-Level, so having a degree is more or less irrelevant (and if you don't have the GCSE & A-Level or recognised equivalent subjects and grade required, you could be a phD and you wouldn't be educationally qualified for AIB; I personally know of at least one rating with a post-graduate degree who was told to go back to school and redo his maths GSCE if he wanted to go to AIB).

Every unit has lots and lots of ratings educationally qualified to go for AIB. I seem to recall from reading the back of FR2020 that at least one maritime reserve unit's lower deck is over 50% university graduates.
