Welcome to the Navy Net aka Rum Ration

The UK's largest and busiest UNofficial RN website.

The heart of the site is the forum area, including:

  1. I was at my local remembrance parade on Sunday and to my delight there was an old and bold Royal there who marched with me. He served in the late Forties and asked if I had a square number. I have been in the Corps for 14yrs now but have never heard this saying. Can any of the old and bold amongst you shed any light on this saying?????????

  2. Is he a Freemason?
  3. Not sure, what would it imply if he was?
  4. He may have been referring to a Unit ID number.

If you open the link below you'll see a photo of a jeep belonging to 46 RM Commando. On the jeep you can see the Square Number 56.

The CO's jeep and Deacon. Neustadt

    Hope this helps.

  5. Hmmmm Interesting, Cheers mate.
  6. Could be asking your Lodge No.?

Are you on the Square? etc.
  7. Could be asking for your ship's book number. The last 4 digits of your official No. if my memory severs right. The book number was noted on forms as your SQ No. Hope that helps?
  8. Cheers Chaps, Going to bite the bullet and ask him!
